3D Printing- Radial Engine

Taylor has been hard at work in the build lab and I think its safe to say dude is getting it down! In this post we show off a sweet 5 cylinder radial engine from Thingiverse…this particular model required the precise printing of 260 separate parts…the model moves freely, demonstrating the functionality of the various parts throughout the cycle, only non printed items shown are the valve springs, prop and cone, Nice!
As always, click on a thumbnail to view larger image…

3D Printing- Gothic Cathedral Model

3D Printed Gothic Cathedral

We’re still grinding away on the 3D printing, the second of four machines arrived last week giving us the capability of printing with additional material types such as ABS and Nylon….  Tay is busy at the build lab tweaking them (they are cranky machines) but he still had time this week to print out this  killer gothic cathedral (thats a penny in there for scale) so we thought we’d share…surface finish is greatly improved over what it was and we are making good progress in resolving many issues with file conversion and slicing…stay tuned!

3D Printing-Architectural Model-Sears Lorain Kit Home

Published by under Uncategorized

3D Printed Sears&Roebuck “Lorain” Model Kit House

(click thumbnails to view larger)

As you know we have recently expanded into the field of 3D printing as a logical extension of our graphic design/illustration/product development business. We’ve had the first of what will eventually be 4 3d printers a little over 3 weeks, and over at the build lab they have been testing out the capabilities and figuring out the eccentricities of the machine and software, to that end Taylor decided to try a (simplified) architectural model of a 1920s Sears Roebuck Kit home, the “Lorain” as a proof of concept for architectural models….the results are shown here…the material is PLA biodegradable plastic and the highest resolution was not used (hence the rather irregular surface finish) but the results are encouraging!

Recent Work for Gossett Jones Homes

Check out some recent work for the good folks at Gossett Jones  Homes on their South River Cityhomes project. I was contracted to execute several exterior views in a traditional watercolor style as well as some photo-realistic interiors. Architecture by Randall Ware, AIA of Shelter Design Studio+workshop. The project is a smaller neighborhood appropriate condo/apt complex of 6 units divided into 2 buildings. (more below the pics…)

Exterior Water Color Renders

Interior Photo-Real Renders

The Model was built in SketchUp8Pro and 3DStudioMax and rendered with Thea Render and the Thea2SU realtime interactive plug in (awesome), with Post production, digital imaging, compositing and magic fairy dusting of the final image files performed by her eminence, Shari “Don’t Worry, we’ll fix it in post” Lane-Davis, Digital Goddess. Task included adhering to the clients very well documented selections package/spec book, which specified appliances, finishes, plumbing and bath fixtures, general decor for the staging and furnishings as well as many customizable variations. Some items I was able to find online the rest I modeled by hand in Max or SU and brought in.

Moontower Saloon-Mega Post

Published by under Moontower Saloon,Work

Following my bout with “flu-monia” and subsequent forced 5 day hiatus over the Thanksgiving Holiday…We rallied and got the web site for Moontower Saloon up and running in record time this week so here are a few screenies of the finished  site… and of course visit the live site  HERE….as you might remember I did the site plan and concept renderings for the Moontower way back in July of 2011…(see: Moontower Concept Renderings-July 2011) mt-screenshot  The guys had a long road in getting the place up and running so its nice to finally have the site up!We’re still tweaking it out and working with various plug-in devs on some additional functionality (mobile friendly event calendar etc…) The Site is a wordpress hack based on the excellent SuperSkeleton family of responsive themes so it scales to various screen sizes depending on the user device. mtabout  Original graphics, photos, incidentals and copy by yours truly. mtnews As far as the bar itself they opened Nov 16th and they are clobbered…they arent getting much sleep, but they definitely have a hit on their hands…and the register is ringing! The food trailers are coming in this week..which will add to the already cool vibe…It’s been a long dry spell out in the 48. mtphoto …  “Way South Austin” (WSA)..is an area LONG ignored by restaurateurs/bar owners…who inexplicably fall all over themselves to build anything new in soul-less strip malls in oversaturated (and notoriously fickle) Cedar Park (lol) or Round Rock….But markets abhor a vacuum…and I knew that sooner or later the 50,000 homebound car count, big lots, reasonable (by Austin standards) land values and thousands of new single family homes here and across the line in Nothern Hays County would catch the eye of the more enterprising. I expect a wave of bandwagon-ers once word gets out that everything put in out here in the last few years (Jack Allens etc) kills…
